Open Office - Making It Start Faster!

This is actually much simpler than you might expect, therefore this may be a short post. Alright, let’s get on with it.

  1. Open up Write or Calc.

  2. Goto Tools, then Options.

  3. Locate the setting on the left called ‘Memory’. Then on the right, check to make sure that the following are in place.

  • Number of steps is set to 20.

  • Graphics Cache for Open Office is set to 128 MB.

  • Memory per object is set to 20.0 MB.

  • Enable systray quickstarter is check-marked.

From here, simply hit OK and restart the program. From this point on, the applications of the Open Office suite will run MUCH faster at start-up. ;)

Wikipedia 'shows CIA page edits'
An online tool that claims to reveal the identity of organisations that edit Wikipedia pages has revealed that the CIA was involved in editing entries
Wikipedia Scanner allegedly shows that workers on the agency's computers made edits to the page of Iran's president.
It also purportedly shows that the Vatican has edited entries about Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams.
The tool, developed by US researchers, trawls a list of 5.3m edits and matches them to the net address of the editor.
The new tool was built by Virgil Griffith of the California Institute of Technology.
It exploits the open nature of Wikipedia, which already collects the net address or username of editors and tracks all changes to a page. The information can be accessed in the "history" tab at the top of a Wikipedia page.
By merging this information with a database of IP address owners, Wikipedia Scanner is able to put a name to the organisation and firms from which edits are made.

Hari Ultah Compact Disc

Bayangkan jika tidak ada CD, kita masih stuck dgn kaset dan video BETA cam. Lupakan saja iPod dan digital music...
clipped from news.bbc.co.uk
Exactly 25 years ago the world's first compact disc was produced at a Philips factory in Germany
More than 200 billion CDs have been sold worldwide since then and it remains the dominant format despite the growth in digital downloads.
The CD was jointly developed by Philips and Sony and the disc has also become a key storage method for computer users.
The first CD produced was The Visitors by Abba.
Piet Kramer, who was a member of the optical group at Philips during the disc's development, said: "When Philips teamed up with Sony to develop the CD, our first target was to win over the world for the CD.
"We did this by collaborating openly to agree on a new standard. For Philips, this open innovation was a new approach and it paid off."
He said the companies had never imagined that the computing and entertainment industries would also opt for the CD as a storage system for content.
The first CDs went on sale in November 1982 and were mainly classical recordings.

Ikan Raksasa Yg Terancam Punah

Photo Gallery: Giant Catfish, Half-Ton Stingrays Among World's
Biologist Zeb Hogan holds a taimen, a giant member of the salmon family, while searching for megafishes in Mongolia.

Hogan is leader of the newly launched Megafishes Project, the first effort to document, study, and protect the world's largest freshwater fish.

The project aims to improve conservation of megafishes—species that grow to at least six feet (two meters) and weigh more than 200 pounds (90 kilograms). They include the mammoth taimen, catfish the size of bears, and half-ton river stingrays

Many megafishes are endangered due to a variety of threats, including overfishing, pollution, habitat destruction, and migration interrupted by dams

Because the largest migratory fish are usually the first to disappear from an ecosystem, many of these giants are on the verge of extinction

Hogan's survey will cover 14 lake and river systems on six continents over the next three years

PDA's Buyers Guide Part 2

The final guide...

Handhelds shopping checklist
Expansion
The smaller PDAs come with miniSD or microSD slots, though the latter is now more widespread
Do take note that some PDAs accept flash card capacities up to a certain storage limit,
Connectivity
Bluetooth and USB are pretty much standard features on most handhelds these days. With the proliferation of Wi-Fi hotspots, it may be worth considering handhelds with integrated wireless LAN for high-speed Web surfing
onboard GPS support which is great for those who travel frequently
Most of the current PDA-phones in the market offer 3G support, though some lower end models offer only up to GSM triband or quadband options
Camera
If you're expecting to print those images, choose one with a 1.3- to 2-megapixel camera
Synchronization
make sure it synchronizes with your PC or Mac.
Power
If possible, always select a PDA that uses removable Lithium cells. This way, you have the flexibility to purchase additional batteries when your current one is defective

Platform
Palm OS devices are generally easier to pick up with their clean and uncluttered interfaces. Pocket PCs are multimedia powerhouses with the ability to multitask.
Screen
When buying a PDA, it is always advisable to install the battery and switch on the handheld to check for dead pixels at the shop. This way, if there are dead pixels on the display, you can change it immediately
Most Pocket PCs have standard 320 x 240-pixel displays, while Palm offers different resolutions. The higher the display resolution, the better the viewing comfort
CPU
If you plan to use your PDA for multimedia purposes, it's best to go for one that has a higher processing horsepower. However, if you are using it mostly for its organizer features, the handhelds with the midrange processors are the better bet because they will most likely be less expensive
Memory
Look out for at least 64MB of RAM for your next PDA, while ROM can vary greatly, from 64MB up to even 1GB

Chinese game that lets players punish corrupt government officials is so popular that servers must be upgraded to handle the demand.

A Chinese game, "Incorruptible Fighter," that lets users hunt down and punish corrupt government officials, has been taken offline for a system upgrade needed to keep pace with demand from users.

"The enthusiastic response from Internet users to the trial of 'Incorruptible Fighter' overwhelmed the server's limits," read a notice posted on the game's Web site (in Chinese), adding that the game's hardware and software are now being upgraded to cope with demand.

Developed by the Ningbo city government, in China's eastern Zhejiang Province, "Incorruptible Fighter" is part of an official effort aimed at rooting out corruption, a widespread problem in the country's government and business circles.

Unveiled on July 29, the game is set against two-dimensional computer images of Ningbo and is aimed at children.
